Newsletter April 13th

On Monday 16th of April the TY students will model their fabulous outfits made from recycled outfits for the ‘Junk Kouture’ Competition. It will be a great opportunity for all to see their wonderful creations. Best of luck to the ‘Tribal in the Cork’group who are through to the finals on Thursday in the 3Arena, Dublin.

The TY students went to Carlingford Activity Centre, Co. Louth before the Easter holiday. They spent their time doing all sorts of activities that challenged them as individuals and as teams. It was a time for great fun, problem solving, team work and physical challenges. The girls had a fantastic experience. Thanks to Ms. Carthy, Ms. Scahill, Ms. Kelly and Ms. Wadden for accompanying the girls.

Congratulations to both first year hockey teams who have qualified to the ‘finals day’ for their hockey league. They will travel to Sion Hill, Blackrock on Wednesday to play in their last matches and we wish them all the very best of luck!

On Monday the 9th of April Nuala Maddigan, Education Officer for the Irish Peatland Conservation Council visited DCW. She conducted a bogland conservation workshop during Geography with all 1st years. The workshop was hands on and the girls and the girls got to make their own ‘Raised Bog’ in a bottle. They also learned about the special flora and fauna of the bogs. Nuala brought some newts which the girls got to hold, they also identified different types of living things in the water. It was a very informative and fun learning experience for the girls. A big thanks goes to Nuala for visiting DCW.

Well done so far and best of luck to all exam students who are busy at the moment with orals- Irish, French and Spanish and practical exams in music and home economics.

There will be a music concert in the Chapel at 8pm on the 26th of April where the 3rd and 6th year music students will present and perform the pieces that they prepared for the practical music exams. It is always a very beautiful evening. All parents and friends are welcome to attend.

The first year GAA team are really looking forward to their upcoming blitz in Ballinakill which will be held on Wednesday 25th.
