Heading into its 59th year the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition is much more than a competition, it is an unforgettable experience for all those involved. Ireland’s biggest and brightest showcase for young STEM talent returns to an in-person event in Dublin between 10th-14th January 2023. If you are interested please contact Mr O'Reilly or Ms Kelly for more information. You have until the 25th of September to apply.

TY Archaeology
On Monday the 4th years had a visit from Mark and Marta to learn about archaeology. The girls saw some interesting artefacts and learned about the work of archaeologists. Tables full of historical items were set up outside Fatima Hall and students had the chance to ask questions and get a feel for life as an archaeologist.

Music Auditions
Fourth years have been busy auditioning for this year's school musical, our take on Ella Enchanted. Students have been taking part in singing and acting auditions. The initial cast list will be posted this week but further roles being cast as rehearsals start. Students commit a lot of time and effort to our productions, rehearsing after on Wednesdays and Sundays throughout the term. This year's musical will be held the first week in December in Fatima Hall.

Athletics
Athletics is back up and running for another academic year and we are looking forward to improving on the lessons from last year and embracing the new. Athletics will be held after school on Monday from 3.30 until 4, concentrating on Cross country and overall fitness. Our first outing is 27th of September in Avondale for Relay Cross country, a good opportunity to stretch the legs and get ready for the East Leinsters later this year.

Opening Evening
DCW's annual Open Evening is on Wednesday 28th of September from 4.30pm to 7.30pm. All prospective students and their families are welcome. This is a fantastic opportunity for prospective students and their parents/guardians to visit Dominican College Wicklow, meet our students and staff.

History Week
This week was International History Week and in recognition of this the Students of DCW produced a number of Projects under the theme of Women in History. They researched various personalities, some lesser known than others who made important contributions at different times throughout the Ages.
Our Second Years are currently displaying their Projects around the School corridors. A popular theme this week has been the unfortunate death of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II who passed away peacefully last week. Other interesting projects include Amelia Earhart, Frida Kahlo, Marie Curie amongst others.
Other activities included a History Quiz, a History Hunt, and daily broadcasts to the School from certain Students including an "On this Day" broadcast and a fascinating account of the mysterious Mata Hari.
Thank you to all students involved as well as Ms.Gaffney, Ms.Murphy and Mr.Keddy in the History Department!

Ember Leaders
The 5th Year Ember leaders completed their training at Ovoca Manor last week. The seven students took part in 3 days of residential training with Ms Flood at the manor alongside five other schools from the Leinster area.
The girls worked on their communication, listening and teamwork skills throughout the week and got the chance to share ideas with other schools on what they might do as an Ember team in their respective schools. They finished the week with a commissioning ceremony led by Monsignor Dan O'Connor.
The girls had a great time and came back to DCW ready to take up their positions as Ember Leaders in the school.
