Guidance and Counselling
Guidance and Counselling in DCW covers two areas, Career Guidance and Personal Counselling. Career Guidance can be delivered to classes, small groups or individual appointments. It covers career research techniques, use of internet resources, organising speakers, choosing Leaving Cert subjects, preparing UCAS applications, preparing DARE/ HEAR forms, preparing PLC interviews, completing CAO forms.
Personal Counselling is offered to students who are experiencing difficulties in their home and school life. However, the emphasis is on finding external sources of help in the long term. All individual appointments, either for careers or counselling are confidential.
The guidance and counselling service is available to all DCW students, but at certain times of the academic year, senior cycle students are prioritised. All First Years have group appointments scheduled, with follow up individual appointments if required. Senior Cycle students have the option to receive information via email as well.
